Ring Ceremony (the engagement ceremony)

While an engagement is usually a private affair between couples, Indians love celebrating every occasion in the presence of family and friends and this is no exception. The engagement ceremony, also known as the Sagai ceremony or ring ceremony, is a public announcement of a couple's intention to marry. It's one of the first ceremonies that takes place between the two families.

The ceremony is a brief ritual where the couple exchanges rings. This is followed by an exchange of gifts between the families like sweets, dry fruits etc. and would be followed by cocktails and dinner.
